Sing Sing Sing Along!

Well todays sing-along was much better than I thought! I was worried to sing in font of a large group. The last time I did this, I think I was like 10, so it has been a long time. Once on stage it was a blast and it did not seem so bad. I think everyone did a great job and that everyone was needed for it to be as special as it was. I think we were only actually up there for 15 minutes so it was quite quick and simple but that is good. I know everyone is stressed right now so that was smart to keep it simple! I loved all the yummy food. I also think that the audience loved it! We were great entertainment! I cannot believe this semster is over! It came and went soooo fast. I learned a lot about the Arts and I had a great experience. I hope everyone else did too. I would also like to wish everyone a very MeRrY cHrIsTmAs and a HaPpY nEw YeAr!

Art Show!

The Art show was a huge success! I think this was a great idea. It was also a chance for us student teachers to get involved with the family and public. For me three out of five students showed up and I think they were really proud of themselves and their art work (I know I was)! In all, it seemed like not much effort was needed to create such a successful event. It helped that there were 30 helping hands. I would be interested in doing an art show in my class one day, now that I have some experience and ideas. But for now, I would like to thank everyone for the great night and awesome pictures and CAKE! Great job!

Happy Halloween

Dayna and I enjoying Halloween. I am not a very crafty person. But I have to tell you that I made my minnie mouse ears by using black shoulder pads! (hahaha) I may not be crafty but that was creative!

Grade 2 Plasticine Art

Plasticine art was a huge success in my classroom. The students and teachers loved it! My lesson began with the students looking at Barbra Reid's book "The New Baby Calf." As a class we discussed her pictures. The students told me what they saw and how they think these pictures were created. I went through the steps (ex: making background first) and then they were on their own to create a Halloween scene. I must note that using small pieces of cardboard works great. This is a difficult project so the smaller the better. Every student was involved and produced an excellent piece of art. I would recommend this lesson to every one and every grade! If you would like to look at Barbra Reid's work here is her website. Again, a lot of great ideas can be found here! http://www.barbarareid.ca/home.htm

Share Like Rainbow Fish

This was an art lesson I did with my grade 2 class at the beginning of the year. The book is called "Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfister. This book deals with the importance of sharing and being kind to others. After reading the story the students created their own rainbow fish and it was put on the bulletin board called "Share Like Rainbow Fish." This art project used pastels and the students were so excited to use them. One student even thought they were face paints!!! (I can laugh at this now but at the time it was a bit of a mess). It is a good lesson to help you talk about sharing and caring for others. Here is also a good websites with more ideas. http://www.dltk-teach.com/books/rainbowfish/index.htm

Step Dancing!

On Friday I went to a step dancing workshop and it was a blast! This was a great workshop to attend because it was a way for me to let off some STRESS! Everyone received a good work out and a lot of laughs. I also learned some new moves but Dayna and Stephanie are great and you should ask to see their new dance steps (hahah sorry girls but you were awesome)! Hope everyone is enjoying their practicum and remember dancing is a great stress reliever and I am sure the students would also love it!

Art History

Wow, I learned a lot about art history today! What I found extremely interesting was the part on World War One. As a history major, I noticed how many artists at the beginning of the war portrayed the war as romantic. However, this did not last! The artist began to show the devastating effects in their work. To me, this demonstrated how the war impacted them and their work. I also enjoyed taking the time to do a self-portrait with different techniques. What a great day!

Art Gallery

My trip to the Art Gallery was a great learning experience. First of all, I discovered that art can been viewed in a number of different ways. I could not believe how everyone was looking at one picture but seeing way different things than I was. I enjoyed B.C. Binning's "Kiss in Nine Pieces" the most. Many of my classmates thought it was a fish kissing while others thought it was a bigger fish eating a smaller fish. I on the other hand saw none of this! But after discussing I was able to see everyones ideas! To me that was awesome! I was also touched by the exhibit of missing women. This was a very moving exhibit. It portrayed the heart ache and grieving very well. Wow, I will never forget that.
