This was an art lesson I did with my grade 2 class at the beginning of the year. The book is called "Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfister. This book deals with the importance of sharing and being kind to others. After reading the story the students created their own rainbow fish and it was put on the bulletin board called "Share Like Rainbow Fish." This art project used pastels and the students were so excited to use them. One student even thought they were face paints!!! (I can laugh at this now but at the time it was a bit of a mess). It is a good lesson to help you talk about sharing and caring for others. Here is also a good websites with more ideas. http://www.dltk-teach.com/books/rainbowfish/index.htm
This is my Art Blog for Education 406. This class is all about Fine Arts (music, dance, visual art and drama). Throughout this course I hope to learn a lot about fine arts so I can bring valuable tools and ideas into the classroom! Therefore, I hope to hear from and post to all my fellow classmates! ENJOY

I love the Rainbow Fish stories! I'm glad you can laugh now about the messes of the pastels from the first week - I know it was a bit of a stresser. Just think, I bet at least half of those kids will never forget that it was you who first introduced them to this new art stuff that look like face paints that we call pastels :)
YOu are brave with gr. 2 and pastels - good job! What do you mean you are not creative - look at that fish and what about your paragraph hamburger last year for your practicum - that was awesome! I Liked how you liked a book with art and social responsibility and just fun! That website is awesome - I used it tons for daycare and I know I can adapt it for older grades too.
Great art idea,I love how cheerful the fish end up looking with all the pastel colors. I agree with Linda, good job on bringing out the pastels with the Grade twos you must have great mangagement skills, I was even too afraid to bring them out with the grade sevens. Thanks for sharing the website, I'd love to try out these fish.
Your blog looks very nice!
